Rob Illidge completed his degree in International Business at both UCLan and Central Connecticut University. He's now Marketing Executive for a top law firm in Manchester.
When Rob was offered the chance to study abroad during his second year at UCLan he knew immediately that it would benefit his future career. Rob says, "studying in the States is extremely different to the UK and there's a notable difference in both culture and education. Classes take on a different format with extra points being given for attendance, regular 'pop quizzes' and strict grading systems. You have to learn fast!"
Making sure he experienced the business culture whilst in the States, Rob worked on campus and acted as a UCLan Ambassador. He comments, "working within a new culture gave me a lot of confidence and improved my communication skills to a business audience. When it came to graduating, this experience undoubtedly helped me to get a good job quite quickly."
Rob is very proud of his time at UCLan and speaks highly of his course and its tutors. He felt the hard work had paid off when he received his job offer from Ralli Solicitors in Manchester. He said "the day I found out I'd got the job gave me a great sense of achievement. I felt I'd made an instant good impression in my two interviews with my now boss, Gillian, and thankfully they felt the same.
"My main role as Marketing Executive is website maintenance and traffic growth. I also update and maintain the bespoke client and prospect database as well as assisting my boss with PR & marketing activities and brand development.
Within just six months I've increased website traffic growth by 59%, implemented a database update of over 30,000 clients and assisted in our sponsorships of Sale Sharks and the Royal Exchange Theatre."
Rob thanks UCLan for playing an 'enormous part' in his career development' and after flying the flag for the University across the pond, he's now firmly waving it in Manchester. UCLAN
